It’s not easy to be a successful business these days, the competition is fierce and there are now more self-employed entrepreneurs than ever before, and although the government is abolishing national insurance for the self-employed, next year’s tax credit cuts could hit the self-employed hard. There’s relatively little help out there from either the banks or the government and it’s enough to put you off before you even start. If you are an existing business in Wales, it’s crucial that you have an online presence.

You need to find time to market your business online

Good marketing is crucial in order to have a better chance at making your business a success. Many businesses fail because they run out of money and/or out of ideas, or simply because they’ve not been marketing properly. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Online you can increase your presence and reach customers all over the world as well as here in the UK.

If you’re a Welsh business and you want to reach Welsh customers, then perhaps it’s even harder. You have a specific market, potential customers with Welsh as a first language, but how do you reach them?

How can you be found online, where can your customers find you?

As well as reaching Welsh customers, with a well-crafted website that demonstrates your products and services, you can increase your visitors globally. Why not let the world know about your business, your specialist area?

There are some amazing Welsh businesses out there, operating through the medium of Welsh, but with very little web presence. I’ve seen some of the Welsh products and services that Wales has to offer, and I think it’s about time the rest of the UK and the world knew about it.

Social media – Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram

Using Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr and Instagram and other social media apps can really make a difference. Regular tweets and posts about your products and services can grab the attention of a potential new customer, letting them know what it is you sell and where you are. Naturally, if you have a website demonstrating your products and services, then even better. Interested visitors may check out your Twitter bio and find your website address, then they’ll go over and have a look around. It can all start from there.

You have to stick at it

Naturally, it’s a continual process, something that you need to stick to and continue with daily. A good marketing strategy is crucial so your web presence is continually seen by a fresh audience.
